Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon hopes to become the country’s second most capped goalkeeper.
Former Aberdeen and Scotland defender Willie Miller presented Gordon with a medal prior to Thursday’s friendly defeat against the Netherlands for reaching 50 caps.
Gordon reached the milestone in last month’s World Cup qualifier against Slovakia with the 1-0 defeat against the Dutch at Pittodrie his 52nd appearance for the national team.
The Celtic goalkeeper said: “I didn’t know that was happening.
“I knew at some point I would get a medal for reaching 50 caps.
“It was nice to get that from Willie, especially in Aberdeen.
“He made a little speech and it was an absolute honour to receive it from someone like him.
“It is also an honour to reach 50 caps for my country as not many people do.
“I’m only the third goalkeeper to do it.
“I’m only one behind Alan Rough so I’m gunning for him.
“I have two more to get second place although I’m still a long way behind Jim Leighton (who won 91 caps).”
Gordon, meanwhile, felt Thursday’s match against the Dutch was a worthwhile exercise, despite the defeat to a first-half strike from Lyon forward Memphis Depay.
He added: “I think we did well and had some good passages of play.
“We created a number of chances against a team of Holland’s quality.
“We had a game plan and a lot of it was carried out.
“We got chances from what we had tried to do during the week.
“From that point of view it was quite successful.”
