Partick Thistle 0-2 Aberdeen: Dons earn historic fifth win in a row

It’s five in a row and counting for Aberdeen after they maintained their 100% winning start to the Scottish Premiership season with a 2-0 win at Partick Thistle.

The Dons were far from their best at Firhill but goals from Adam Rooney and Kenny McLean gave Derek McInnes’ side a win which equalled the feat of the 1984-85 league winning team which also won its first five matches.

The Dons manager named an unchanged starting 11 from the team which beat Dundee 2-0 at Pittodrie last week as Aberdeen went in search of their fifth win in a row.

But his hopes of seeing his side build on their impressive win at Firhill were dimmed somewhat by a forgettable first half showing against the Jags.

Jonny Hayes and Niall McGinn fired straight at Partick goalkeeper Tomas Cerny in the opening 25 minutes as the Dons probed for an opener but their early chances were as close as the visitors came to breaking the deadlock in a poor first 45 minutes.

Alan Archibald’s side could not capitalise, however, with Dons goalkeeper Danny Ward untroubled at the other end.

The second half, however, was a different story for the Dons as they came out quickly with a quickfire double to take control of the game at Firhill.

Adam Rooney got the first, intercepting a shot from Kenny McLean before firing past Cerny from close range, despite appeals for handball and offside from the Jags defence, to give the Dons the lead.

Rooney turned creator for the second before the hour mark, setting up David Goodwillie for a shot which was parried by Cerny into the path of McLean who slotted the ball home to make it 2-0.
