Formartine United: Fascinating three horse race for title

It looks like we could be heading for a proper battle for the title this season.

Last year, even this early, it was pretty much a one horse race with Brora sweeping all before them on their way to a record points total and winning by a country mile in the process.

Not so this year – it’s been and remains much more of a dog eat dog affair and at the moment three sides (including ourselves) are still in the fascinating position of being guaranteed to lift the title if they win all their remaining games.

They have all still to play each other and it means that we are all in the situation of staring each other out – the first to flinch or blink drops right off the pace and will have to look from a helping hand from elsewhere to get back into the mix.

They will then have to rely on a team from outwith the top three to take points  from one of their rivals.  The beauty of this league is that that has every chance of happening.

Fraserburgh have shown just that; by taking two points off us shortly after taking three from Cove (thanks Brochers) OK  we lost two points but still have, over the New Year period, a net gain of one point over Cove.  Three would have been better but not only have we got that game out of the way, we have cleared suspensions for  Lawson and Barbour and I’d rather we faced Cove or Brora with  Paul  Lawson conducting one of his master classes in midfield distribution than without.

In a way we can say that every cloud has its silver lining: we could have lost at Bellslea as many others have, we didn’t and remain right in contention. Meanwhile.
