Jane Danson and Ryan Sidebottom have been eliminated from Dancing On Ice.

The pair were shown the door in a double elimination on Sunday night.

Coronation Street actress Danson said it had been “the best experience of my life”. She said skating in front of judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean was “a dream come true”.

Cricketer Sidebottom, who suffered a groin injury during the competition, said the experience had been “really cool”.

The contestants had ended up in a skate-off against Melody Thornton after the public vote, and judges Torvill, Dean, Ashley Banjo and Jason Gardiner chose to keep Thornton in the competition.

Just five hopefuls now remain on the ITV show – Thornton, Brian McFadden, Wes Nelson, James Jordan and Saara Aalto.

Nelson impressed the panel with his routine and earned a new series high of 38 out of a possible 40.

Each judge awarded the Love Island star and his skating partner Vanessa Bauer a score of 9.5 out of 10, and Gardiner said the performance was “sublime to watch”.

Former Strictly star Jordan racked up 36 out of 40 after admitting he “bottled” one of the moves, and praised Nelson for reaching new heights.

“Hats off to Wes because he smashed it,” he said.

Aalto also wowed when she performed a daring spin called the “bladebanger”.

The move, which saw Aalto’s skating partner Hamish Gaman swinging her around by her feet, helped the pair earn 30 out of 40.

Dancing On Ice continues on ITV.
