Review: Watching mum get revenge on most hated man on the internet was deeply satisfying TV

The Most Hated Man On The Internet
The Most Hated Man On The Internet

If you Google the words “morally repugnant” there’s a good chance the face of Hunter Moore will show up in your results.

He’s the subject of Netflix’s grimly compelling new series The Most Hated Man On The Internet, which looks at how he created one of the world’s first revenge porn websites and became one of the web’s most notorious celebrities.

It’s all pretty disturbing stuff, although you can tell by the way the series builds that he’s going to get his comeuppance. It’s that promise of ultimate revenge that makes the unpleasant bits slightly more bearable.

Even more satisfying is the fact that his downfall is prompted by the mum of one of his victims.”

Even more satisfying is the fact that his downfall is prompted by the mum of one of his victims, who vowed to destroy Moore when she discovered her daughter’s nude photographs on his website Is Anyone Up?

Charlotte Laws’ tireless campaign on behalf of daughter Kayla didn’t stop there, however, and eventually included dozens of women whose private photos were stolen and posted on Moore’s website.

Hunter Moore is a repugnant – but absent – character in The Most Hated Man On The Internet.

It was only through her efforts that the FBI were called in and Moore was finally stopped.

The series is from the makers of previous Netflix shock doc Don’t F**k With Cats, so you know what you’re getting with this.

If you’re looking for a deeper analysis of Moore’s actions, or an examination of the psychology behind his army of deluded followers, this isn’t the documentary for you.

There’s still something deeply satisfying and cathartic about watching his victims get their revenge.”

There’s also a gaping hole in the form of Hunter Moore.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he doesn’t take part, so that means many of the questions about his actions remain unanswered.

In saying that though, there’s still something deeply satisfying and cathartic about watching his victims get their revenge.

To that end, it’s very effective and you’ll fly through the three hour-long episodes of The Most Hated Man On The Internet  in a blizzard of outrage and disgust.
