Orkney police are appealing for information after the item was discovered by a member of the public in a garden in the Thoms Street area of the town. It was reported to police shortly after 8.30am yesterday morning. Constable Kenneth Macleod said: “Our initial inquiries suggest the bayonet was discarded in the street. “Orkney has a rich military history and we know that a number of items of memorabilia are held in the islands. “However, we are keen to understand how this bayonet came to be where it was and ask that anyone with information comes forward”. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident 912 of July 2. Already a subscriber?
