If you go down to the woods today …

Families across the north-east are gearing up to experience an evening adventure featuring the sights and sounds of the woods as never before, as Scotland’s leading sound and light artists take them on an all-new night-time journey on and around Crathes Castle’s wooded paths.

The Enchanted Castle returns to Crathes next week with a stunning new light and sound extravaganza over five evenings, when the Deeside castle will once again be transformed into a winter wonderland for all the family.

The theme for this year’s event is Wonderful, Weird and Magical and, as organiser Gerry Muldoon explained, the only similarity to last year’s experience is the price of the tickets.

“While ticket prices remain as they were for 2012, this year we are following a completely new trail with different skylines, new entertainment and, ultimately, a thoroughly captivating experience,” he said.

In addition to the new light and sound landscape, there will be a host of new characters and attractions for visitors to meet as they journey through the woods. Entry includes admission to the stunning castle.

Tickets for the spellbinding event are on sale at Aberdeen Box Office and Banchory’s Woodend Barn, and Gerry is confident of attracting more than the 8,000 visitors who attended last year’s event.

He said: “Interest in the Enchanted Castle has grown significantly each year, as has general awareness of the event. With what is planned for this time round, I am sure the numbers heading for Crathes will reflect that. That said, in order that visitors have an enjoyable experience, only a limited amount of tickets have been made available for each evening. Once these are sold out, no further allocation will be made available. Last year, tickets for the Friday and Saturday evenings went very quickly and I would urge people to book early to avoid disappointment.”

The Enchanted Castle will take place at Crathes Castle between 5pm and 9.30pm from Wednesday to Sunday, November 20-24, with the opening night being an adults-only evening. Tickets are available from www.aberdeen performingarts.com or by calling 01224 641122, and also from Woodend Barn, Banchory, by calling 01330 825431 or e-mailing mail@woodendbarn.co.uk This year’s extravaganza is sponsored by Petrofac and supported by Scottish Enterprise, EventScotland, Aberdeenshire Council and Year of Natural Scotland 2013.
