Parents name crash baby

Parents name crash baby

A young couple who lost their newborn baby boy after a road crash had moved to the north-east just weeks ago to set up a new life for their family.

Yesterday, the parents were forced to pick a name for their late son as they fought to come to terms with the tragedy that claimed his life.

The boy, Bojidar Katsarov, had been due to be born around Christmas time.

His mother, 27, who was seven months pregnant, gave birth early following the trauma of the crash but the baby’s life could not be saved. The couple, who are from Bulgaria, had recently moved to the fishing village of Gourdon in anticipation of their first child.

They had welcomed friends, a student couple from the Stirling area, to their new home over the weekend and had spent their time touring around the area.

The four had been out on a drive on Tuesday morning when the tragedy happened at the Balmanno crossroads on the A937 Montrose to Laurencekirk near Marykirk.

Their BMW was turning right out of the junction towards the village when it was involved in a collision with another BMW, which was travelling in the same direction.

Both cars ended up smashing through the fence of a corner cottage.

Owner James Young, 63, had been in his kitchen doing his dishes when he heard the bang outside his living room window.

He recalled seeing the heavily pregnant woman “tangled up” in the back seat of the car.

He said: “I looked out and there was a driver in a big lorry out directing the traffic so I knew something had happened. I opened the door and there were two cars in my garden.

“One of the women was sort of tangled up in the back. She was the one with baby. She was very scared – that would be the best way to describe it.”

The two women and one of their partners were taken to hospital while the other man stayed with police to give a statement.

The pregnant woman gave birth to her boy at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but tragically he could not be saved. The driver of the second car did not require medical treatment.
