Residents have condemned vandals who caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars parked in Aberdeen’s West End.

Vehicles, which were in Stanley Street and Gladstone Place, were targeted between 8pm on Saturday and 9.45am on Sunday.

A police spokeswoman said the bodywork of more than a dozen vehicles had been scratched, causing damage estimated at a high four-figure sum.

One resident, whose Range Rover was scratched all along the passenger side, said: “It disgusts me that people think they can go ahead and do these things.”

Another said it was the third time her Land Rover Freelander had been targeted and that she was getting “fed-up”.

A third said she paid £2,000 to get her silver BMW repaired the last time vandals struck in the area back in September.

Last night, local councillor Martin Greig, described the crimes as “appalling”.

The Lib Dem member for Hazlehead, Ashley and Queens Cross, said: “The damage that has been done is completely unacceptable and it causes a great deal of anxiety and upset to the victims.”

Fellow ward councillor Ross Thomson, also condemned the culprits, saying: “It is totally mindless to do something like this.

“People think they live in a safe area and when incidents like this happen, people become very concerned.

“It is absolutely appalling.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
