The young couple, Dawn Watson and Steven Reiach, died in a crash on Hilton Drive, Aberdeen

The Crown Office is investigating a fatal motorbike crash which claimed the life of two Aberdeen parents.

Steven Reiach and his fiancee Dawn Watson died in April after the bike they were on collided with a grey Alfa Romeo car on the city’s Hilton Drive.

Mr Reiach, 23, from Northfield, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while Miss Watson, from Seaton, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The 24-year-old later died from her injuries.

The couple, who had been in a relationship since meeting at school, left behind a young daughter, seven-year-old Sophie-Leigh.

After the incident police urged witnesses to come forward if they believed they had seen the accident happened at around 8.50pm on Wednesday, April 1.

And two weeks ago police officers closed off Hilton Drive to carry out a reconstruction of the incident.

Last night a spokesman for the Crown Office confirmed the couple’s deaths had been reported to the procurator fiscal and were being investigated by the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit (SFAI).

When asked by the Press and Journal if criminal charges were still being considered in relation to the incident, he said: “The deaths are still under investigation. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further while the investigation is live.”

The SFAI is a specialist unit responsible for looking into all sudden, suspicious, accidental and unexplained deaths. Their investigations often lead to fatal accident inquiries.

It is understood the 23-year-old driver of the bike had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident as he had given it to his girlfriend, who was riding pillion.

Speaking the day after the accident, Steven’s dad, Mr Reiach sen, said: “Apparently Steven had no crash helmet on and Dawn had the helmet.

“Steven, of course – the big hero – must have told her to use his helmet and not to worry about it.”

The 67-year-old said Steven – his youngest son – had visited him shortly before the crash happened.

He said: “He left my house with his motorbike. I heard it outside and the last thing I remember saying was ‘I wish you would come off the motorbike altogether, I don’t like you on the motorbike’.

“He said ‘yes’, and away he went, and that’s the last time I saw him.”

Mr Reiach his son doted on his daughter and called her his “little princess”, and that he and his girlfriend were “like two peas in a pod.”
