A search was launched this evening for a hillwalker reported missing from the peak of the highest mountain in the Cairngorms.
The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team led the search for the person on Ben Macdui – Scotland’s second highest Munro.
A police spokeswoman said: “It is being led by the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team. It is a report of a missing walker. Police are aware and will assist if needs be.”
The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team have since put out a tweet confirming the walker is safe.
They said: “Call out completed. Persons escorted off the hill. All safe and well.”
It comes after the Braemar Mountain Rescue Team issued a warning to anyone thinking of taking to the hills, with whiteouts and 8in of snow expected this weekend.
During a training exercise the group capturing images of the snow-capped peak of Beinn Mheadhoin, near Ben Macdui.
Temperatures at the highest peaks is due to drop to as low as -3C this weekend, with the snowfall coming as far east as Lochnagar.
