Road closures planned for Balmedie and Goval

Motorists are facing the prospect of months of traffic misery when two busy north-east routes shut for eight weeks as part of the AWPR works.

Old Road in Balmedie will close between Keir Heights and Eigie Road to enable the contractor to connect Old Road to the newly-realigned Eigie Road, which will provide access to the A90 trunk road via the new Balmedie junction.

The diversion, using Eigie Road and North Beach Road, will be sign-posted. A 20mph speed restriction will be in place between Forsyth Road and Eigie Crescent for safety reasons.

The existing A90 junction, providing direct access with the Blackdog Industrial Estate, will close permanently to traffic during the week commencing Monday, September 18.

Temporary access to the industrial estate will be provided, via a new temporary junction on the A90 at the entrance to Blackdog Rifle Range.

Permanent access to the estate will be available, via the new Blackdog Junction once it opens to traffic.

A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “The closure of Old Road at Balmedie is necessary to allow the contractor to connect the road with the new trunk road junction.

“The sign-posted diversion will, however, help road users reach their destinations.”

There will also be an expected eight-week closure of a section of the B977 Echt to Balmedie road, between its junction with the A947 Newmachar Road and Goval House.

Access will be maintained for pedestrians, local residents and businesses and emergency services.

Diversions, using the A947 Dyce to Newmachar road, will be sign-posted with road users being directed to the B979 Kinmundy crossroads.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “Once open, this new section of the B977 will enable road users to cross over the AWPR and the Goval Burn on two new bridges.”
