A new defibrillator has been installed in a small rural village in Aberdeenshire.

Keig is the latest community to have bought one of the life-saving devices after raising £2,500 in funding earlier this year.

It is located outside the primary school and will be available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, after the official opening last week.

Next door is the community hall, where various activities are held throughout the week, including badminton, indoor bowling and yoga.

Members of the Keig Defibrillator Group toasted the new addition to the village which came about after a community ‘soup and fine piece day’ in May.

Organiser Yvonne Buckingham said: “It’s a real boost for the community to get this – we have all been involved with the project in one way or another.

“So far we have 44 people undergoing training to use the machine and we have had a lot of help from Deeside first responders.

“We are planning to hold more training sessions so everyone can familiarise themselves with the equipment – should they ever need to use it.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved and all the generous support we have received.”

Enough funds were raised by the event held in May to pay for the machine and its installation.
