An Aberdeenshire man tried to call his harassed former partner more than three hundred times in the space of a few hours.

Stuart Miles, Swan Road, Ellon, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday charged with causing his ex-partner fear or alarm by “repeatedly, persistently and excessively” contacting her and making derogatory remarks.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to the two charges against him, dated from August 23 to September 15.

The pair had been in a long-term relationship for 13 years and married for six years, with three children.

On August 23, Miles contacted his ex on Facebook messenger to discuss contact with their children but then became abusive and made derogatory remarks towards her.

He then tried to video call her and phone her 326 times in just under three hours.

Later in the day, Miles sent a text message telling the woman to go to the front door.

Fiscal depute Alan Towsend told the court the woman lived in a rural and secluded location and fearing he was outside lurking in the dark, she called the police.

Officers attended but couldn’t find Miles on the property. He was later traced at his own address.

On September 17, Miles’ ex-partner received numerous missed calls from a number she didn’t recognise.

Shen later contacted a friend who confirmed the new number belonged to Miles.

At this point, he had left numerous messages and there were a number of missed calls on her phone.

When police spoke to him about it, he made a “spontaneous comment” about how he had been drunk and had messaged her “abuse”.

Solicitor Alex Burn said his client had been referred to a psychologist and was dealing with other issues in his life, including alcohol.

“If he had any doubts previously about what would happen if contacting his ex-partner, he now knows knows he could end up in custody,” Mr Burn added.

Sheriff Ian Wallace deferred sentence until October for reports.
