A north-east dentist has been allowed to continue practising, despite admitting he failed one of his patients.
John Donaldson, of Balmoor House, Peterhead, faced a series of allegations about record-keeping and assessments he carried out between December 1998 and August 2011.
At a General Dental Council hearing in Edinburgh, Mr Donaldson said he accepted that his failings amounted to misconduct and that he had since taken steps to address his “deficiencies”.
The panel said despite performing “below the standards expected” of someone in his profession, the committee appreciated that the case related to just one patient and that his failings did not concern the treatment they were given.
The panel also said although the patient in question – known only as Patient A – had been a “credible” witness, they also took into account that Mr Donaldson had been described by other patients as a “caring and dedicated” dentist.
“Taking in account all of your remediation, the committee has concluded there is no risk of repetition, and that your fitness to practice is not currently impaired,” their findings said.
