Plans for Aberdeen bypass “workers hotel” put on hold

Plans to build a hotel for Aberdeen bypass workers at the site of a historic inn have been put on hold while another location is considered.

Proposals had been lodged to turn the Old Mill Inn, at Kirkton of Maryculter, into a site for almost 300 people working on the construction of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR).

Digs2Go – the company behind the project – wanted to build 132 portable living units, aswell as a 292-space car park in a field on the other side of the South Deeside Road.

However, Transport Scotland has now revealed that another site at Craibstone could be used instead.

“We are aware that Aberdeen Roads Limited investigated a number of potential sites for accommodation purposes,” a spokesman said.

“They are now progressing with the provision of an accommodation site for up to 400 people at Craibstone.”

A spokesman for Digs2Go said its project at the Old Mill Inn was “on hold” while its “sorts out our position” with those involved with the AWPR.

Locals living the Old Mill Inn revealed earlier this year that they were opposing plans for the car park.

One resident said he and others who live near the proposed site were concerned about the influx of vehicles to the small community.

He said the area was already facing traffic issues as a result of the 300 new homes currently under construction at nearby Blairs.
