A lorry driver has been charged with failing to stop and provide the police with his details after an accident on a busy north-east road which left a young man dead.
Oskars Zenka died on January 23 after being struck by a white articulated truck on the A96 Aberdeen-Inverness road near Kintore.
Emergency services arrived shortly after the incident, which happened around 2.20am.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Zenka, of Inverurie, died at the scene.
Lorry driver Gary Wilson has been charged in connection with the incident.
Prosecutors allege that his vehicle struck Mr Zenka near the B987 Tavelty junction, leaving the 27-year-old with fatal injuries.
They allege he then “failed to stop and give his name and address” and “the name of the owner and the identification marks of the vehicle” to the police.
Wilson, of 5 Wemyss Street, Rosyth, has not been charged with leaving the scene of a crash or causing Mr Zenka’s death.
The 38-year-old was not present at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and the case was continued without plea.
A large section of the road was closed for more than seven hours after the incident as police carried out an investigation.
Commuters faced huge delays during the morning rush hour later that day.
Police later urged members of the public who may have seen Latvian national Mr Zenka on the road, or a lorry travelling northwards, to get in touch.
