Dozens of drivers have been charged with motoring offences after a crackdown on speeding on some of the north-east’s busiest roads.
Road policing officers carried out high visibility patrols on the A96, A90, A952 and A950 routes over the weekend.
Nearly 200 vehicles were stopped during the operation with 36 motorists reported to the procurator fiscal for speeding.
Five men aged 18, 20, 40, 43 and 45 were also charged with drink driving.
And one 20-year-old man was clocked driving at 110mph on the A96 dual carriageway at Kintore at 3pm on Saturday.
A further 58 motorists were warned or reported for a variety of motoring offences, including driving without insurance and careless driving.
The police crackdown was carried out on roads known to be areas where motorists have previously been injured in collisions.
Yesterday road policing inspector, Ewan Innes, said he was disappointed to find so many drivers breaking the law.
He said: “Over this weekend, officers have had to attend a total of 37 road traffic collisions throughout the region, fortunately with only one resulting in serious injury.
“Inappropriate speed is, and always will be, a significant factor in many collisions and, whilst the majority of motorists do drive in a responsible manner, it only takes the selfish and irresponsible actions of one individual to put the lives of themselves and others at risk.
“It is extremely disappointing to see the number of detection’s over the weekend and see that there are still people willing to take a chance.
“We continue to encourage all road users to think about their actions, as the offences we have seen can have devastating consequences.”
