Plans for 180 homes in Aberdeenshire passed by councillors

Aberdeenshire Council's Garioch area committee yesterday approved Malcolm Allan Housebuilders Ltd's plans for 176 houses and flats at Westgate South, Inverurie.
Aberdeenshire Council's Garioch area committee yesterday approved Malcolm Allan Housebuilders Ltd's plans for 176 houses and flats at Westgate South, Inverurie.

Plans for almost 180 homes in one of Aberdeenshire’s fastest growing towns were backed unanimously yesterday.

The Garioch area committee yesterday approved Malcolm Allan Housebuilders Ltd’s plans for 176 houses and flats at Westgate South, Inverurie.

The proposals are the second, third and fourth phases of the development to the west of the town.

The plans were originally approved in 2013, but were back before councillors yesterday after the developer amended housing designs along with layouts and plot boundaries.

The plans include a number of affordable homes and were approved by the committee on a delegated grant.

A spokesman for Malcolm Allan Housebuilders Ltd said: “We are pleased that the planning service and councillors have supported our proposals for further phases at the successful Westgate South development.

“The approval will allow us to offer an improved range of homes in Inverurie.

“In response to feedback from our customers we will now also be able to offer semi-detached two bedroom properties in the recently released second phase of development plus a small number of our ever-popular bungalows.”

The council’s director of infrastructure services, Stephen Archer, said: “The revisions to layout and design within Westgate South residential development are considered to be acceptable. There are no material planning considerations which indicate that the application should be refused.”
