A dozen projects across the north and north-east have been handed a chunk of £200,000 from the founders of a Scottish food giant.

The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation was set up to manage the personal legacies left by the pair, who started Moray-based Baxters Food Group.

The foundation supports groups working in education, health, social welfare, sport, arts, heritage, conservation and the environment in the north of Scotland.

Among the groups to benefit from this latest round of funding is the Grampian Child Bereavement Network and The ARCHIE Foundation’s Highland Children’s Unit appeal at Raigmore Hospital.

Also in line for a cash boost is the Highland Wildlife Park, the National Youth Choir of Scotland in Inverness and the Isle of Lewis.

The Cullen Sea School was also awarded £3,000 to fund the purchase of St Ayles Skiff and the necessary tools for boat building.

Kay Jackson, manager of the foundation, said: “We are very pleased to be able to support these organisations, all of whom are doing fantastic work in their local area.”

“At the foundation we are always keen to hear from well-managed groups with creative ideas and exciting community projects. We are now open for inquiries to apply to our next funding round in March 2016.”

The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation was established in 1981 to allow the family to give something back to the people who had helped lay the foundations of their successful family enterprise.
