A man has been jailed for 15 months after hitting his partner over the head with a four-pack of beer.
Daniel McCabe punched the woman in the face, knocking out two of her teeth, after he accused her of infidelity.
The 26-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, admitting that he had assaulted his now-former girlfriend to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement one evening in October.
An argument arose between the pair, at an address on Regent Walk in Aberdeen, after McCabe saw another man had “liked” one of her photographs on Facebook.
Depute fiscal Katy Begg said: “He accused her of cheating on him.
“The woman became upset by the accusation and attempted to reassure him.
“They were entirely unfounded but they continued to argue and it got heated.”
The court heard that the woman threw a set of keys at McCabe then slapped him on the side of his face.
In retaliation, he picked up a four-pack of Budweiser beers and struck his partner on the back of the head, causing her to fall to the ground.
After she stood back up, McCabe punched her in the face, cutting her lips and knocking out two of her teeth.
The woman left the house and contacted the police. And she was taken to hospital where the cuts on her lips had to be glued back together.
Defence agent Laura Gracie said McCabe had not been taking his ADHD prescription regularly, which may have contributed to his outburst.
She added: “They are both keen to put this matter behind them.”
Sheriff Graeme Napier said: “It doesn’t matter what the background was to it. This was ridiculous behaviour against somebody you were sharing your life with.”
He sentenced McCabe to 15 months behind bars, backdated to October 22 when he was first taken into custody.
