Aberdeen man jailed for ‘idiotic and moronic’ rampage targeting exes

A man has been jailed for putting a garden hose through his ex-girlfriend’s door – and flooding the vestibule.

Maxwell Stewart also threw a paving slab through the window of a car belonging to another former partner’s mum during the “idiotic and moronic” rampage.

The 30-year-old, who carried out the offences while “intoxicated”, appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where he was handed an eight-month jail term.

Fiscal depute Lynzi Souter said an ex-partner of Stewart’s was at a property in Westray Road, Aberdeen, at 11.45pm on Friday when they heard the buzzer sound and saw Stewart standing by her mother’s car.

She said: “She (the ex-partner’s mum) then saw the accused lift up what appeared to be a paving slab before throwing it at the front nearside passenger door. It bounced off the body work.

“The accused was then seen to lift and throw the same slab a second time with the slab going through the door window.”

Police were contacted. Into the Saturday morning another ex-partner of Stewart’s was woken by banging at her back door on Berneray Place, Aberdeen, and heard him shouting “I’m away to get lifted”.

On looking out of the window she saw him standing in the garden before going to the front door and “kicking and punching the door trying to get access and demanding entry”.

She did not let him in.

Mrs Souter said: “A short time later the accused was seen to kick the back door of the property with force and this resulted in lifting of the latch slightly.

“She then saw the accused proceed to feed the garden hose through the gap and turn it on, which caused flooding to the vestibule area at the back door.

“The accused was then heard to shout ‘I’m going to put a window in if you don’t let me in’.

“Moments later there was a smashing sound heard and a large stone was located on the kitchen floor along with glass debris and there was a hole in the kitchen window.”

Police were called and later traced and arrested Stewart.

Defence agent Alex Burn said: “It’s not often I can say that words fail me, but this was totally idiotic and moronic behaviour.

“He was given tablets, Valium, which he stupidly took.

“He has little recollection of what happened due to his intoxicated state in combination with the street Valium he had consumed.

“As to what possessed him to put a hose through the door, he offers no explanation.

“The best I can say in relation to this is he pled guilty from the get go.

“Beyond that there’s really nothing else I can say which justifies the conduct.

“He accepts it’s wholly unacceptable and wholly uncivilised behaviour.”

Sheriff Graham Buchanan said: “There’s only one possible outcome and that’s a sentence of imprisonment.”

He jailed Stewart for a total of eight months.
