Drunk knocked barmaid to ground after being asked to leave bowling alley for ignoring Covid rules

A drunken dad-of-two knocked over a barmaid after he was asked to leave an Elgin bowling alley for repeatedly ignoring Covid rules.

Lewis Milne got “very drunk very quickly” after drinking without eating before the assault at Pinz in Elgin on November 11 2020.

He “repeatedly ignored the Covid regulations” during his drinks and while being escorted from the premises, Elgin Sheriff Court was told.

Fiscal depute Ruaridh Allison said the 28-year-old knocked one barmaid to the ground as was ushered from the bar.

“Staff approached him and told him about his adherence to Covid restrictions,” he said.

“Due to these not being adhered to and him being intoxicated they told him he would no longer be served alcohol and was asked to leave.”

Police caught up with drunk in taxi

He was ushered from the Moycroft Road industrial estate bowling alley’s drinking area by a female bar manager at around 9pm.

“As he got towards the exit he grabbed her by the left shoulder and put his forearm across her neck causing her to fall to the ground,” the fiscal added.

Police were called and they caught up with Milne in a taxi heading towards the centre of Elgin.

Milne, who was not present in court, admitted a charge of assault.

Defence agent Carty told the court the self-employed wind farm worker “fully accepts the incident” and that the tackle was “done on purpose”.

“He has been working all day and had gone to meet his friends for a drink,” Mr Carty said.

“He hadn’t had anything to eat and began consuming alcohol.

“He was asked to leave and reminded, quite rightly, about the Covid regulations. He appreciated people going to their place of employment shouldn’t have to put up with this sort of conduct.”

Drank on an empty stomach

He added that Milne “purposely” pushed the woman as he tried to reach for his jacket to leave.

He asked for Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov to punish Milne by way of a fine.

She, however, wasn’t sure that would go far enough and deferred sentence for background reports and a restriction of liberty order to be carried out.

Milne, who gave an address in Newcastle Upon Tyne, will be sentenced next month.
