Drunk wedding guest stopped from fleeing reception venue after hitting partner

Hasan Goz was arrested at a wedding at House of Schivas
Hasan Goz was arrested at a wedding at House of Schivas

A violent wedding guest was taken away in handcuffs after drinking too much wine and hitting his partner at the reception, a court has heard.

Hasan Goz was stopped from fleeing the Ellon wedding venue by fellow guests, before police officers arrived to arrest him.

The fallout began with Goz drinking alcohol which he “wouldn’t normally touch” during the meal, and his wife speaking to someone he didn’t approve of, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.

The 43-year-old’s actions led to police officers swooping into the grounds of House of Schivas, on what should have been his friend’s big day.

Fiscal depute Sean Ambrose told the court that the incident took place near Ythanbank on Friday, July 1 this year.

He said Goz and those in his company at the celebrations were “intoxicated” and that an argument broke out between the couple after which Goz was asked to leave.

Hasan Goz owns Old Skool Barbers in Peterhead and Fraserburgh.

The father-of-one did so but once out in the garden his partner reappeared and guests could hear shouting before some witnessed him strike her on the head.

He tried to leave after police were on their way but was stopped by other guests.

“During the course of the day, an argument broke out between the complainer and the accused for an undisclosed reason. She asked him to leave and he did, going out into the garden,” the fiscal said.

“A few moments later, various other guests came out into the garden because they heard the accused shouting.

“He was then seen to approach the complainer and slap her to the face with his right hand. One of the witnesses called the police.

“He then tried to leave the locus but two witnesses followed him while waiting for officers to arrive. Police traced him walking down the driveway.

“He appeared highly intoxicated.”

Goz, who appeared on an undertaking at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, pled guilty to a charge of domestic assault at the first opportunity.

‘He tends to stick to beer’

Defence agent Stephanie Milligan said Goz, a successful businessman, had been drunk and acting out of character because he’d drank alcohol he wouldn’t normally touch.

He’d also taken umbrage with his partner of six years talking to someone he alleged was involved with drug abuse and who he didn’t approve of them associating with.

The solicitor said: “He was at his friend’s wedding with his partner and they were enjoying the celebrations.

“He doesn’t drink spirits because they don’t agree with him so he tends to stick to beer.

“But on this occasion, he drank wine with the meal when it was on the table.

“He had never drunk wine before.”

‘Embarrassed by his actions’

She said Goz, a barber, didn’t realise what he had done until police officers told him, leaving him “embarrassed by his actions”.

Sheriff Lesley Johnston was shown a detailed letter from Goz’s partner and agreed to grant him bail on standard conditions rather than with conditions to keep away from her.

She deferred sentence on Goz, of King Street, Peterhead, to allow for background reports to be prepared.
