Dealer caught with cocaine after being attacked with machete in Morrisons car park

Machete attack Aberdeen
Jack Watt.

A drug dealer was caught with more than £3,000 of cocaine when police responded to a report of him being jumped in a supermarket car park.

Jack Watt had been sitting in a car at Morrisons on King Street, Aberdeen, when two males entered the rear of the vehicle with a machete.

When the police came to the 24-year-old’s aid they searched the vehicle to check if the weapon had been left behind and discovered 26.93g of cocaine, worth up to £3,300.

Later, at the police station, Watt asked to use the bathroom and was seen dropping a bag containing around £100 of cocaine on the floor.

‘Messages on the accused’s phone talking about controlled drugs’

Fiscal depute Carol Gammie told Aberdeen Sheriff Court: “About 9.12pm on January 28 2021, police officers attended at the locus following a report of persons having been attacked with the accused and his associate believed to be the victims.

“The accused was spoken to as a potential witness regarding the separate matter.

“Police were advised that while the accused was sitting within the car, two unknown males had entered the rear passenger doors with a machete.

“Police officers searched the car to ensure no weapons were within and found a small black bag within the nearside rear door pocket.”

The bag contained cocaine worth £3,300.

Incriminating messages on phone

Watt was taken to Kittybrewster police station where he was asked about the machete incident but “did not disclose anything further”.

Ms Gammie said: “As part of that enquiry, the accused showed police officers the last messages on his mobile phone to assist them in understanding why he was at the locus at the material time.

“Police officers saw messages on the accused’s phone talking about controlled drugs.”

The phone, along with £170 in cash, were seized.

Ms Gammie went on: “The accused then asked officers if he could use the bathroom.

“Whilst within the toilet the accused dropped a small self-sealed bag on the floor which was subsequently seized by police.”

It was found to contain 0.9g of cocaine worth £100.

Watt was arrested.

Watt, of Menzies Road, Aberdeen, pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Sheriff Morag McLaughlin deferred sentence on Watt until October for background reports.
