A Norwegian man has been ordered to pay a woman £1,000 after drunkenly knocking her unconscious while on a work team building trip to Aberdeen.

Christer Landoy had “far too much to drink” while out with colleagues in Soul on Union Street.

The 32-year-old pushed a woman, causing her to fall over and hit her head, knocking her out.

And Landoy went on to struggle violently with police when they arrived, forcing them to restrain him to the floor.

‘Deeply ashamed’

Fiscal depute Georgia Laird told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened around 12.20am on March 18.

She said: “A witness confronted the accused about another matter at which point the accused pushed her to the ground, causing her to hit her head and become unconscious.”

A bouncer quickly apprehended Landoy and police arrived and tried to detain him for a search.

However, Landoy began to shout “are you joking?” in an aggressive manner.

Despite then being handcuffed, Landoy continued to be aggressive and had to be restrained to the ground.

Landoy, of Kyrkjevegen, Førde, pled guilty to assault to injury and resisting, obstructing or hindering police.

Defence agent Ian Woodward-Nutt said his client lives in Norway and works in customer services.

‘That’s a lesson to you not to drink too much in future’

He said: “He visited Aberdeen over the weekend when these offences were committed as part of a team building exercise with colleagues from his place of employment.

“Perhaps all too predictably, on the evening in question, he accepts he had far too much to drink.

“He recalls colleagues were ordering spirits throughout the evening and he became so intoxicated that he recalls little or nothing of the incidents forming the offence.”

Mr Woodward-Nutt said, despite this, Landoy accepted full responsibility and was “deeply ashamed”.

He added: “It is of particular concern to Mr Landoy that he caused an injury to this woman.

“He’s asked me to extend a public apology to her for his behaviour which is entirely uncharacteristic.”

Sheriff Shirley McKenna warned Landoy: “That’s a lesson to you not to drink too much in future.”

She ordered him to pay the injured woman £1,000 in compensation and imposed a further fine of £740.
