Three neighbours in a tiny west Highland village have scooped £120,000 through the People’s Postcode Lottery.

On Saturday the IV40 8DH in Balmacara was announced as the winning postcode that saw two women each getting £30,000 while a third winner got £60,000 after playing with two tickets.

Radiographer Helen McLean, 31, was the lucky £60,000 winner and she got one of the more pleasant surprises of her life when she discovered how much she won.

She said: “This is just amazing – I’m in shock. It’s my sister Jen’s birthday this weekend and I’ve booked a trip to Venice for us both – now we have two reasons to celebrate! I signed up to play after my friend won the £1,000 daily prize and it’s been the best decision ever.”

She already has plans on how she will spend the cash, adding: “I work at the hospital in Skye and I’ve wanted to buy a house there for a while so it’s going to be fantastic to finally be able to do that.”

Retiree Heather Grimmer, 58, was thrilled with her £30k prize, saying: “Things like this just don’t happen to me – it feels like I’m in a dream because I never win anything.

“I’m going to book a holiday to Italy for my husband Ian and our two sons. I’ve not been abroad before and we’ve never really had a family holiday so it’ll be a really special trip.”

And finally Tina Glen-Riddell, 71, was joined by her husband Duncan when she received her cheque.

She said: “Oh my goodness – what a nice surprise. It’s just brilliant to win with my neighbours and be able to share this moment with them.”
