A motorcyclist was in a “critical condition” in hospital last night after colliding with a car on the A83 Tarbet-Lochgilphead road in Argyll.
The incident took place near the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar shortly after 1pm.
Two helicopters, the Royal Navy Sea King helicopter from Prestwick, and an air ambulance, were called to the scene.
The man was flown to Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital, arriving there at about 3pm.
Three fire units from Inveraray, Arrochar and Lochgilphead, were also called out but only the Arrochar crew attended.
The road was closed for about two hours and was later re-opened on a single lane contraflow system.
An ambulance spokesman said that the male rider sustained serious injuries to his stomach.
A police spokeswoman said: “The incident involved a car colliding with a motorcycle at 1.05pm. The motorcyclist is in critical condition but it is not believed there were any injuries caused to anyone in the car.
“The road was initially closed for a couple of hours and then it was opened as a contraflow.”
