A Sheriff sentenced a 25 year old Inverness man with “a consistent record of assaulting people” to 120 hours of unpaid community work yesterday.
At an earlier sitting of Inverness Sheriff Court, Rory Macdonald (25) of 31 Drynie Avenue had admitted assaulting Drew Gallacher outside Craigdowar Lodge in Newtonmore on May 31 by punching him on the head.
Sentence had been deferred by Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood until yesterday for a background report after he noted Macdonald’s history of violence.
Defence agent Pauline Chapman said her client recognised he had a bad record but was “throwing his energies into outdoor activities to turn his life around.
“He had stopped drinking for three years as he realised it was the source of his offending. But he was at a party for people at the outdoor centre and had taken alcohol.
“A group were being quite rowdy, and when he asked them to calm down, one of them grabbed him by the jumper and he punched him.”
Macdonald will also be under social work supervision for two years.
