The work of more than 2,500 people who volunteer for the children’s panel have been praised.
North East MSP Christian Allard thanked the large number of workers for their dedication to the Children’s Hearings System in Scottish Parliament.
The scheme looks to ensure the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children and young people through a decision making tribunal called the Children’s Panel.
Speaking in Holyrood, the SNP MSP sought assurance that a review would keep children’s needs at the centre of the system.
Education Secretary Angela Constance said the review will ensure the practice of the children’s panel is “consistent” across the length and breadth of Scotland and “within the spirit of the legislation”.
Mr Allard said: “I thank all the volunteers for their efforts – which are an integral part of the Children’s Hearings System designed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children in Scotland.
“We modernised the framework around children’s hearings to give us a strong and unique system and I am pleased that the Scottish Government’s review will ensure that children remain at the centre of this system.”
