Midfielder Ikechi Anya is confident Gordon Strachan’s Scotland can end 2014 with the ultimate high of beating England at Parkhead tomorrow.

The match against Roy Hodgson’s side will be the national team’s final outing until facing Gibraltar in March.

Scotland are well placed in European championship qualifying Group D after Friday night’s 1-0 win against the Republic of Ireland.

Watford midfielder Anya, pictured, who won his 10th cap against the Irish, is desperate to keep the feel-good factor going by beating England, who were 2-1 winners against Slovenia at Wembley on Saturday in their Euro 2016 qualifier.

He said: “We go into every game thinking we can win, especially when we are at home.

“The atmosphere was electric at Parkhead on Friday and that will be even more the case on Tuesday thanks to the confidence we will take from beating Ireland.

“We will go into the match looking to win.

“The atmosphere against Ireland surpassed my expectations. As soon as the national anthems started you could feel the supporters were really up for it.

“That set the tone for us. We knew we needed to deliver and luckily we did.

“The match against England will be a real test but we have had testing games already this year.

“Germany and Poland are both very good teams. We performed well against Germany even though we lost and we drew in Poland.

“We go into every game full of confidence and Tuesday won’t be any different.”

The optimism growing under Strachan’s Scotland is in contrast to England, who are winning but doing little to excite the supporters south of the border.

Anya, however, anticipates a difficult match against an England team brimming with quality players. The 26-year-old is hopeful the national team can record a first win against the neighbours since 1999.

He added: “It would have been a setback had we lost against Ireland but we would not have treated it like the end of the world.

“We are building a good thing here. The momentum is with us and we are full of confidence. It is very important to keep it going. Winning becomes a habit and we want to keep that going for as long as possible.

“We are doing well so far. We have two home victories in the qualifying campaign and hopefully we can get a good result against England.

“Everyone is feeling great after the Ireland match and looking forward to facing England.

“Gordon Strachan has been brilliant for us and has given us the belief we can achieve something.”
