Aberdeen new boy Donervorn Daniels ready for semi final

West Brom have the option to extend the defender's contract

New Aberdeen signing Donervorn Daniels is ready for a baptism of fire in this weekend’s League Cup semi final against Dundee United.

The West Brom defender has signed on loan until the end of the season and could make his debut at Hampden this weekend with Ashton Taylor and Russell Anderson both set to miss the match because of injury.

Daniels, who has had loan spells at Tranmere, Gillingham and Blackpool, said: “I like the pressure and I believe I can rise to the big occasions. I am looking forward to that game so much. I had a good training session with the players, getting to meet them and finding out how they are.

“Saturday is going to be a big day for the team, the city and myself. I am just looking forward to the opportunity.”

Daniels, who made 19 appearances for Championship strugglers Blackpool while on loan in the first half of the campaign, said former Don Jeffrey Monakana helped persuade him to make the move to Pittodrie.

He said: “It was a good feeling when I found out that Aberdeen were interested in taking me on loan. I know a few people who have played here and Jeffrey is one of my close friends.

“When I found out Aberdeen were interested I spoke to him and he was full of praise for the club.

“He had a big part to play in getting me to come here. I also played with Ash Taylor when I was on loan at Tranmere. We played together in the centre of defence so we know each other quite well.”
