Ross County picked up a vital 3-1 win at Partick Thistle to move off the bottom of the table and help bolster their chances of avoiding relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

Craig Curran had given County a half time lead before missing a penalty early in the second half.

Raffaele De Vita netted a second for the Staggies before Lyle Taylor pulled one back for the Jags.

But a superb goal from Marcus Fraser ensured County left Maryhill with all three points.

The Staggies stuck with the same line-up that had delivered last week’s morale-boosting 3-2 victory against fellow strugglers Motherwell, knowing another three points could move them off the foot of the table.

The hosts made three changes to the team that lost 1-0 at Dundee with goalkeeper Paul Gallacher stepping in for injured Scott Fox, while captain Daniel Seaborne and Ryan Stevenson replaced Conrad Balatoni and Stuart Bannigan.

County were looking for back to back wins for the first time this season and they got off to the perfect start with 11 minutes on the clock when Frederic Frans’ attempted clearance hit the back of Callum Booth and the ball fell kindly for Curran who squeezed the ball home at the back post.

Ryan Stevenson had a chance to immediately restore parity but the former Hearts player was denied by an excellent Scott Boyd tackle.

Paul Quinn had a great chance to double the Ross County advantage just before the half hour mark but the central defender volleyed wide from a Martin Woods corner when he should have at least hit the target.

Partick gradually came back into the match as the half wore on and County had their goalkeeper Mark Brown to thank for a fine save to prevent Ryan Stevenson’s header finding the top corner.

The Maryhill Jags made a change at the break with Declan McDaid withdrawn for Kris Doolan who almost made an instant impact, heading wide from a Booth cross.

County were awarded a penalty kick nine minutes after the restart when Liam Boyce was hacked down by Seaborne but Curran’s poorly struck spot-kick was easily stopped by Gallacher.

The Staggies may have been worried that they would live to rue that miss but it wasn’t long before they augmented their lead when Michael Gardyne went on a rampaging run before feeding De Vita who coolly slotted the ball home.

Partick pulled one back straightaway when Taylor took advantage of some poor County defending to head home from Kallum Higginbotham’s in-swinging corner.

But Marcus Fraser put the result beyond doubt with a superb effort only three minutes later when he ran half the length of the field before exchanging passes with Boyce and firing the ball past Gallacher.
