Aberdeen’s Jonny Hayes has had his appeal against the red card shown against Celtic last weekend rejected.
The Irishman was shown a straight red card in the 71st minute for a challenge on Celtic right back Mikael Lustig.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the time, however, despite the sending off the Dons went on to win 2-1, courtesy of Paul Quinn’s 86th minute winner.
Speaking after the match Dons manager Derek McInnes said: “I accept the speed of the tackle will have played a big part in the referee’s decision but I thought it was harsh. It’s not a two-footed challenge and he has actually won the ball with his left foot.
Hayes is now ruled out of Sunday’s match against Hearts and the League Cup clash away to Hibernian on Wednesday.
Obviously gutted with the outcome today! Hearts away is always a fixture you look forward too. Hopefully the boys can continue the run.
