Dons defender Ashton Taylor was delighted after strolling through his debut in last night’s 4-1 win against Brechin City.

Goals from Ryan Jack, Niall McGinn, Lawrence Shankland and Declan McManus helped the Reds to a comfortable victory in front of more than 1,000 supporters at Glebe Park.

Goalkeeper Scott Brown, who played the full 90 minutes, and defender Taylor, who played the second half, both impressed in their first outings for the club.

Former Tranmere Rovers player Taylor, a former Wales under-21 international, said: “It was brilliant to get 45 minutes. The lads have been fantastic and have welcomed me into the team with open arms.

“I feel I have settled in very well and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club so far.”

Manager Derek McInnes was pleased with an industrious performance ahead of next week’s Europa League first qualifying round match against FK Daugava Riga at Pittodrie.

Taylor said the opportunity to play Europa League football was too good to turn down and added: “I have never played European football before so it is something I am very much looking forward to.

“It is an exciting time and to move up and try something new in Scotland is something I wanted to grab with both hands.

“When I first came up I was taken aback by how big a club it is.

“The manager impressed me and having the chance to play European football is a big plus.

“I have been used to playing in front of 3,000 to 4,000 every week.

“The support at this club is fantastic so I am looking forward to playing in front of them.

“It is going to be a privilege to play alongside the likes of Russell Anderson and Mark Reynolds as they are quality players.”

Manager McInnes added: “We were far brighter in the second half and to come away with four goals and no injuries is very pleasing.”
