Deveronvale forward Gary Harris is relishing the opportunity to help new manager Steve Dolan restore confidence in the Banffers, who are languishing fourth bottom in the Highland League.

The 27-year-old, who got back on the goal trail with Vale’s opener in last Saturday’s 2-2 home draw against rejuvenated Lossiemouth, hopes to be scoring regularly to help his new manager.

He said: “I’ve been on a disappointing run. It’s my job to score goals and that hasn’t been happening for several reasons.

“I was pleased to score against Aberdeen University in the Aberdeenshire Shield and I should have possibly had another two on the night, so it was great to get another against Lossie on Saturday. If a chance comes along I will continue to plug away and hopefully take it as our results haven’t been the best this season.

“But we’ve had boys out injured which hasn’t helped. We do have a good squad so it’s a case of rolling up our sleeves and grinding out results to get confidence flowing again.

“Our new manager, Steve Dolan, has highlighted to us that our fitness is a bit low, so we are going to have to get back to the drawing-board.

“It is a case of the season starting all over again as he has different ideas from our previous manager, Ally MacLeod.

“We know if we don’t buck up our ideas and do that bit extra off the pitch we’re not going to be here long. I know the Vale should be up there challenging and it’s Steve’s objective to bring back the glory days when the club was winning trophies.”

Looking ahead to tonight’s marathon trek to Wick, the former Keith and Turriff United forward added: “Tomorrow night’s trip to Wick is a bit of a disaster for the club but when we are down that end of the table things like that happen, we don’t get breaks, either on or off the pitch.

“But we have to be positive and there is no reason why we cannot go there and get a result.”
