Caley Thistle Women manager Karen Mason wants her side to keep improving as they look to go three games unbeaten in the league.

The Caley Jags are in the midst of their best run of form of the season so far as they are undefeated in their last two matches in the SWF Championship.

A 3-0 win against Hutchison Vale kicked off the run before a 0-0 draw with Renfrew, and Inverness will be hoping to make it three unbeaten when they host Dryburgh on Sunday.

It’s the second time in as many weeks that Caley Thistle have played the Dundee side, as they met in the quarter-finals of the league cup last weekend.

Inverness beat Dryburgh 2-0 in Dundee, but were retrospectively kicked out of the competition and fined £100 after it was discovered they had fielded an ineligible player.

Mason has been impressed with her side’s recent unbeaten league form after a challenging start to the season, but reckons there are still things they can improve on.

She said: “It’s slowly but surely coming together. We’re still not overly satisfied over the entire 90 minutes, but we’re doing things right that we weren’t doing right before.

“We’ve definitely improved, but there’s still plenty more work to be done. There are mistakes from the first round of fixtures that we’ve not quite fixed yet.

“I want us to become a bit more consistent. You might see the clean sheets and think ‘they’re solid in defence’ but that’s not always been the case.

“Things have definitely been better in some areas, but if we’re to challenge at the top end of the table, then there are things that we need to work on.”

Home form will be key

Caley Thistle play their third consecutive home game when they host Dryburgh, and Mason wants her side to use that to their advantage in their bid to climb the table.

The Caley Jags currently sit in fifth with 11 points after nine games, but a win or even a point on Sunday could see them overtake Hutchison Vale into fourth.

Mason added: “We’ve talked about this a lot this season – we want our home ground to be where we’re getting the points and the wins.

“We want to try and keep this momentum going, so getting another three points on the board is the next step on the road for us if we want to challenge at the top end.”

Inverness’ Natalie Bodiam and Megan McCarthy were rewarded for their performances in October as they were both named in the SWF Championship team of the month.

Mason said: “It’s great for them to be named in the team of the month. Natalie has moved back up top and looked more comfortable up there.

“Against Hutchison Vale, she did exactly what we asked of her and then last weekend at Dryburgh she moved back out to the wings where we were struggling.

“She’s got that versatility and she’s reliable which is great. Natalie knows what she needs to do to keep herself in the starting XI – and that’s what she’s aiming to do.”

In League One, it’s a clash at the top of the table at Lawsondale, as Westdyke host league-leaders FC Edinburgh, who are only above the Westhill side on goal difference.

Torry side Grampian Ladies could move up to third in the league with a win over BSC Glasgow at Banks o’ Dee’s Spain Park.
