PREVIEW: Stenhousemuir v Peterhead

Peterhead have won three out of three against Stenhousemuir this season but manager Jim McInally says his players have their work cut out if they want to make it a clean sweep over the Ochilview side today.

The Warriors, sitting second bottom of League 1, stunned former leaders Stranraer with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

The Blue Toon head into the match on the back of an enthralling 3-3 draw at Ayr United where McInally’s men twice came from behind to lead 3-2 only to concede a late equaliser.

McInally said: “Many people would have expected a Stranraer win against Stenhousemuir to be a foregone conclusion but it just shows that anything can happen in this league.

“Everyone can beat everyone else which has made it a very competitive league. Stenhousemuir played very well against Stranraer, so we know we have to go there and give them our utmost respect.

“We have to remember that at the start of the season Stenhousemuir would have been a much more fancied side than us to reach the play-offs. We seem to have a habit of facing teams who are going into the match on the back of a good result.

“Ayr United had just beaten Forfar and now we go to Stenhousemuir, who will be full of confidence after beating Stranraer.

“They have some good players and Paul McMullan, who is on loan from Celtic, is one we will need to watch. But we have managed to get the better of them three times this season, so we should have the belief that if we play well we can win again.”

Cammy Kerr and Kevin Dzierzawski were on target when Peterhead defeated Stenhousemuir 2-0 at Balmoor in January.

McInally, who has no fresh squad injury worries, admitted his players will need to defend better than they did against Ayr United but was able to take plenty of positives from his side’s display at Somerset Park.

He added: “When we were losing 2-1 we would have probably been happy to settle for a point. But I always felt if we got the equaliser we would go on and score again, which we did. It was a sore one to concede a late equaliser.

“We have not been defending well enough. At the same time, there was a lot to like about our performance, especially the spirit we showed and the way we passed the ball about.

“It was a sore one to only take a point but we certainly played our part in a terrific game.”
