Former Ross County striker Adam Strachan has died at the age of 35.

Strachan made more than 50 appearances for the Staggies after joining the club in January 2008 following his departure from Partick Thistle.

He scored eight goals during his time at Dingwall.

The circumstances around his death are not yet known.

Strachan was a product of the Partick Thistle youth system and made his debut against Dundee in a Scottish Premier match at the age of 16 in 2004.

He left Firhill by mutual consent in December 2007 and joined Ross County the following month.

He was released by Ross County in July 2009 after being charged with assaulting his girlfriend.

He joined Dumbarton in September 2009 before being sent on loan to Albion Rovers the following month.

He moved to Clyde on a free transfer in January 2010 and went on to have a short spell at Arbroath after leaving the Bully Wee a year later.

He went on to have spells at Clydebank, Irvine Meadow, Glenafton Athletic, East Kilbride and, most recently, BSC Glasgow.

A statement from Ross County read: “Ross County are sad to learn of the passing of former player Adam Strachan.

“Adam spent two seasons in Dingwall making over 50 appearances.

“Our thoughts are with Adam’s family, friends and loved ones at this time.”

Strachan spent time in jail after being caught in possession of a knife and for drugs-related offences.

Former teammate Sean Winter, who played with Strachan at East Kilbride, said: “Can’t believe the news I’m hearing about Adam Strachan.

“Absolutely gutted at this. The guy was seriously misunderstood and one of the best players I ever played with.”

Former Falkirk, St Johnstone and Dundee United player Tam Scobbie wrote on social media: “Managed to have a few camps with Adam Strachan with the Scotland U19/21s.

“Guy had massive talent but an even bigger, infectious personality. Thoughts and prayers go out to Adams family and friend at this difficult time.”

David Winters, another former teammate, said: “RIP my friend. Single-handedly the funniest boy I’ve ever met in football, also one of the most talented players I’ve ever had the pleasure to play with.”
