Aberdeen curler Rebecca Morrison will skip Scotland’s women’s team at the Le Gruyere AOP European Championships later this month.
Morrison will be joined by Gina Aitken, Sophie Sinclair and Sophie Jackson, who were all part of the Aberdonian’s rink that won a landmark title in Canada in October.
Gold-medal-winning Olympian Hailey Duff will travel to Sweden for the competition as Scotland’s reserve.
Morrison’s rink will be hoping to retain Scotland’s European title, as both the men’s and women’s teams were crowned European champions during last season’s event.
Scotland start their campaign against Turkey on November 18, before facing Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland in the other round-robin ties.
Morrison said: “We are very excited that we have been selected as a team for this European Championships.
“This is the first time for three of us going out there and it is always an honour to represent Scotland on the world stage.
“We can’t wait to get out there and get some good wins on the board and hopefully qualify Scotland for the World Championships that will also take place here in Sweden.
“Since our last event representing Scotland we have played in competitions across Europe and Canada with a win in Leduc.
“So, we will take a lot of confidence from that and feel we have progressed so much over the last six months and can’t wait to show that to everyone.”
Scotland men seek hat-trick of victories in Sweden
Bruce Mouat will skip Scotland’s men’s team at the European Championships, as his Olympic silver medallists target a hat-trick of victories at the major event.
Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan make up Team Mouat, with Kyle Waddell travelling as their alternate.
The event will see Team Mouat continue their rivalry with the host nation’s representatives, Olympic and six-time world champions, Team Edin.
After a challenging start to the season, Mouat reckons his men are capable of repeating the successes they achieved on their previous appearances at the Europeans.
Team Mouat made their international debut at the European Championships in Tallin in 2018, and returned to the competition again last year in Lillehammer.
Mouat said: “The European Champs have been very kind to us on the last two occasions and we are looking to replicate the results from both those previous trips.
“Things started to shape up pretty nicely for us again at the last Slam and we were playing some good curling and we are excited to see what we can do at the Europeans.”
Team Mouat take on Germany and Spain on their first day of action at the European Championships.
