A motorcycle once owned by late Beatles star John Lennon has fetched £57,500 at auction.
The 1969 HondaZ50A ‘Monkeybike’ was sold for close to double the estimated £30,000 when it went under the hammer with H&H Classics at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull.
Lennon had used the Monkey-Trail bike to get around his Tittenhurst Park estate in Ascot, where he lived from 1969 to 1971.
Mark Bryan, head of sales for H&H Classics motorcycle department, said: “Naturally we were thrilled to be entrusted with the marketing and sale of this bike, given its extraordinary provenance.
“So to achieve this price is hugely satisfying.”
The vehicle was sold by John Harington, who had owned it for 47 years and displayed it at various shows.
He purchased the bike from Henry Graham, of Hook, Hampshire, who said he had bought the motorbike from Lennon when he was living at Tittenhurst Park.
