Aberdeen attacker Lawrence Shankland has cancelled his loan deal with St Mirren to join Championship rivals Morton on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old Scotland under-21 international spent the first half of the campaign on loan at the Buddies but will join his new team-mates for training tomorrow.
St Mirren but recently agreed to cancel his stint there to return to the Dons.

Ton manager Jim Duffy said: “We’re delighted to have been able to bring Lawrence Shankland in on loan until the end of the season.

“We’ve looked around, all over the place to be honest, and just tried to get the best options available to us, and Lawrence has always been someone we’ve knew about.

“He knows the Championship; he’s been at St Mirren. I don’t think it was as prolific a move as he would have hoped but I don’t think that can detract from the fact he’s a talented goalscorer and he’ll give us something different at the top end of the pitch.

“At 21 years of age, he’s still got plenty to offer. He’s a strong boy and around the penalty box he’s a real threat. He’s not the one who’ll run into the channels or stretch the defences, he more occupies the defenders.

“That’s something I think that we’ve been looking for for quite a while. Even when we had the likes of Jai (Quitongo) available, we would have still liked somebody like that to give us a different type of option.

“So Lawrence will come in and I’m sure he’ll fit in well with how we play and if we can get the service to him, I’m really confident he can be a success and score some important goals for us.”
