Director quits over boardroom rift

A director has resigned from shinty’s Camanachd Association claiming directors are undermining each other within the boardroom.
Donnie MacKenzie has quit saying he can no longer stand by and watch the disintegration of all he believes in. His resignation has revealed rifts within the boardroom, with at least three other directors said to be unhappy.
In a letter to chief executive Gill McDonald he referred to the new boardroom alliance of president Duncan Cameron and communications director Donald Stewart, who were elected last year, as the moment when the structure behind the scenes began to collapse.
Recent events which have hastened his departure include the new board alliance negotiating with major sponsors without the knowledge of other directors.
He said they are also looking at hiring an event company to stage the Camanachd Cup final this year, believing board organisers cannot be trusted to do it right.
In his resignation letter, MacKenzie wrote: “When board members demonstrate they neither respect staff nor trust them to do a good job, the organisation cannot move forward. When staff are demeaned in front of others and treated as mere lackeys and those doing so don't have the self-awareness to recognise it, the implications for operational effectiveness are huge.”
President Cameron re- jected MacKenzie's claims saying disagreements had arisen over differences of opinion as to how the game should be run.
In answer to allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards other staff, he said: “The Camanachd Association board or myself have not received any complaint either formally or informally from any member of staff.”
