British Science Week is the UK’s annual celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, led by the British Science Association.

Each year, the Aberdeen branch of the British Science Association, along with many partners across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, brings you an exciting programme of talks, workshops and hands-on activities. This year’s programme is even bigger than ever due to generous support from the BIG Lottery Fund.

Most events and activities are free and all will inspire you to think, question and try something new.

This year, the theme for the week is “change” and there are many additional resources for schools and families provided by the British Science Association. Running from Friday, March 10, until Monday, March 20, the programme is full of exciting events that include the family launch event, Accelerate, that will take you on an explosive interactive tour of science behind atom smashers. Engineering Extravaganza is an adult takeover after hours at Aberdeen Science Centre. Alzheimer’s Research UK Science Sunday on March 12, from 10am to 4pm, at Aberdeen Science Centre, this is a free event offering you the opportunity to explore the most mysterious structure in the known universe – the human brain.

Family-friendly activities will run alongside talks from scientists and clinicians who are working to tackle dementia. With hands-on activities, challenging games and the latest in virtual reality technology, this event will shine a light on this incredible organ and showcase the pioneering dementia research underway in Aberdeen.

There’s plenty to inspire young minds, too, with a jam-packed schools programme full of fun and interactive events, and the week draws to a close with the hugely popular Family Discovery Day, bursting with hands-on activities at Aberdeen Science Centre on Saturday, March 18.

Check out our Facebook page for full details, photos and new events throughout the year, including our popular Sci-Screen events at the Belmont Filmhouse.
