North-east school pupils are doing their bit to tackle plastic pollution by picking up pieces of litter as they walk to school.
Aberdeenshire MSP Gillian Martin has launched the scheme at Tipperty Primary School and Turriff Primary in a bid to help with the growing global problem.
The effort has been arranged after the politician wrote to leading supermarkets urging them to cut down on single-use packaging.
Ms Martin is now inviting more schools to join her campaign to pick up at least five items per walk.
She said: “Over the last few months, children and young people throughout my constituency have taken to the streets to demand strong climate action and make their voices heard.
“I am delighted to be listening to some of those pupils and believe, as we tackle the climate emergency, education is a positive force for change.
“Schools are at the very heart of our communities and so can help to take the lead.”
