Aberdein Considine has expanded into a fifth Scottish city with the acquisition of Stirling-based Muirhead Buchanan.
The deal gives Aberdein Considine 19 offices across the country, including Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth and now Stirling. The value of the deal was undisclosed.
Muirhead Buchanan, which has been part of the Stirling legal scene for close to a century, is the first law firm that the company has merged with since 1988.
Managing Partner, Jacqueline Law, said Muirhead Buchanan was a perfect fit for Aberdein Considine.
“We are delighted to be able to strengthen our national coverage with the addition of Muirhead Buchanan,” she said.
“Traditionally, we have expanded through organic growth, but joining forces with a well-known firm allows us to hit the ground running in Stirling.
“The partners feel that this acquisition further demonstrates our commitment to providing legal, property and financial services across Scotland and will strengthen the services currently provided in our existing south offices – Perth, Bathgate, Livingston, Edinburgh and Glasgow.”
Aberdein Considine said it will operate under the trading name of Muirhead Buchanan in the city and will also continue to operate from their existing premises at Allan Park.
Ms Law added: “This is an exciting move for the firm and we believe that we can bring something unique in our offering to the area. There is a growing demand for locally delivered, quality legal and financial services across the country and this deal underlines our desire to offer that.”
At present, Muirhead Buchanan provide a wide range of legal services to individuals and businesses with an emphasis on domestic and commercial conveyancing, trust and executry, family and general civil court work.
Muirhead Buchanan currently has two partners, Philip Anderson and Anthony Quin, who have become partners at Aberdein Considine as part of the transaction.
Mr Anderson said: “This merger allows us to offer an increased range of legal services to our clients, with added degrees of specialism, but at a local level.
“Excitingly, it also allows us to offer estate agency services and financial services whilst Anthony and I can ensure continuity of service to our clients.”
Aberdein Considine – which has a turnover of £20million and more than 350 staff – was set up in Aberdeen in 1981, but now has a national presence.
