A racist threatened to break an Aberdeen shop worker’s jaw and pushed over a display of Kinder Eggs and lollipops.
Andrew MacDonald had gone Sunny’s on Market Street with a friend in the early hours of the morning when he made a racial comment about the man working behind the till.
MacDonald, 44, then approached the shop worker and threatened to assault him before toppling the display of confectionery.
And MacDonald, when arrested later, went on to make a homophobic comment to police officer, branding him a “p***”.
Fiscal depute Stephanie Cardow told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened around 1am on October 16 2021.
MacDonald no in a ‘better place’
She said when MacDonald entered the shop he appeared “agitated”.
The fiscal said: “On seeing the witness, he turned to his friend and stated ‘I hate foreigners in this country’.
“The accused then began to shout and swear towards the witness and threatened to break his jaw.”
The terrified employee phoned the police, which only seemed to anger MacDonald more.
MacDonald then pushed over a display of Kinder Eggs and lollipops and was heard to shout “foreign f***” before leaving.
When police arrived they traced and arrested MacDonald and took him to Kittybrewster station.
While in a holding cell there, MacDonald repeatedly called an officer a “p***”.
Accused ‘drank too much’
MacDonald, of Craigton Terrace, Peterculter, pleaded guilty to acting in a racially aggravated manner and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Defence agent Lynn Bentley said alcohol “played a part” in the offence.
She said: “He had been in the company of his friend. The friend tried to make a purchase and it appears something was said to the friend and the friend reported that to Mr MacDonald.”
The solicitor added MacDonald had been going through “difficulties” at the time regarding his family.
She added: “He went out with his friend, drank too much and then behaved in an aggressive manner.”
Ms Bentley said MacDonald was now in a “better place” and not drinking to excess.
Sheriff Margaret Hodge handed MacDonald six months of supervision and 125 hours of unpaid work.
