A duo of Scottish stormtroopers welcomed a Star Wars icon to Aberdeen yesterday ahead of the city’s inaugural Comic Con.

Paul Blake, who played alien bounty hunter Greedo in the original Star Wars, will be one of the stars comic book fans can meet at the event today.

Granite City Comic Con will be held at Transition Extreme from 9am-5pm, and will include a whole galaxy of activities including signings, costume competitions and even climbing lessons from Spiderman himself.

As well as Mr Blake, a whole host of icons including Batman writer Alan Grant and Shane Rimmer, the voice of Thunderbird’s Scott Tracey will be at the family-friendly event.

The day has been organised to raise money for Clan Cancer Support.

Mr Blake, whose character was famously shot by Han Solo, arrived at Aberdeen International Airport last night and said he was looking forward to meeting fans.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Aberdeen so it’s great to be here,” he said.

“It should be great, most of the fans are really excited so it’s going to be fun.”

Colin Penny, one of the organisers of the convention, said: “Paul’s face lit up when we turned up with the stormtroopers, so

he’s obviously a good sport.

“Today’s going to be absolutely brilliant, we’ve worked really hard on it for a long, long time, so we hope it’ll be a great experience for everyone involved.

“There’s going to be so much for everyone to do, for both kids and adults, and of course it’s all for a good cause as well.”
