Sleep-deprived man threw brick through window of techno-loving neighbour

Steven Forman threw a brick through his techno-loving neighbour's window.
Steven Forman threw a brick through his techno-loving neighbour's window.

A man threw a brick through his neighbour’s window after “losing the plot” over loud techno music.

Sleep-deprived Steven Forman, 47, had become exasperated with his neighbour blaring techno music early in the morning so picked up a stone and launched it at the man’s window.

The projectile smashed through the glass and struck the music lover on the head, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.

He called the police 20 minutes later and confessed to the incident – telling them “I haven’t slept for three weeks”.

Forman’s solicitor described his victim as “the neighbour from hell”.

Forman, a former car mechanic, pleaded guilty to culpably and recklessly throwing a brick through the window, causing an injury to his neighbour.

Victim ‘heard a smash’

Fiscal depute David Rogers told the court that at around 9am on July 18 last year Forman’s neighbour was sitting on a chair near the window of his home on King’s Crescent in Aberdeen when he “heard a smash”.

He said: “A stone came through the window and struck him on the head.

“A witness who was within the property looked out the window and noticed a male, the accused, walking away from the locus.

“At about 9.20am on the same day police officers received a call from the accused to inform them that he had thrown a brick through his neighbour’s window.

‘I haven’t slept for weeks’

Defence agent Mike Monro described the situation as a “neighbour from hell type scenario”.

He said: “He’s lived at this address for years and this neighbour was constantly playing what is called techno music.

“The situation is that the accused phoned the police a few minutes after he had lost the plot and threw this brick through the window.

“He told them that he smashed the window, his neighbour was playing loud techno music and he couldn’t get to sleep so he went outside where he saw a brick on the ground and he threw it through the window.

“He had asked on many occasions for the music to be turned down and he had just been wholly ignored.

“He called the police and admitted it and told them ‘I haven’t slept for three weeks’.”

Sheriff Edward Gilroy fined Foreman, of King’s Crescent, Aberdeen, a total of £160.
