Police are appealing for information after a bus which took children on a trip to a popular tourist spot on Skye which has been the centre of parking rows in the past.

Officers were yesterday holding another meeting to discuss the parking issues around the scenic Fairy Pools near Glenbrittle.

The Fairy Pools are a series of waterfalls and pools that give views of Skye’s famous Cuillin hills.

But booming numbers of tourists to the island – which has been featured in many blockbuster films, such as Transformers:The Last Knight, Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender, and Ridley Scott’s Prometheus – have caused congestion problems, particularly at attractions like the Fairy Pools.

At times it has led to heated arguments.

On Monday afternoon a three figure sum of damage was caused to the windows of the bus.

Portree Constable Steven Turnbull said: “The bus was not occupied at the time however had been used to transport children from the central belt to Skye for a leadership course and this disappointing incident understandably had a negative impact on their experience.

“We request anyone with information about how the damage was caused to contact the Police on 101 or if they wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Police been highlighting parking problems at some of the Isle of Skye’s most popular tourist destinations for the past few years.

Visitors have been leaving vehicles illegally in passing places on roads or parking badly on verges near the Fairy Pools and the Quiraing.

A study commissioned by Highland Council has also looked at ways to alleviate parking problems.

Portree based Councillor Iain Renwick said: “We as councillors have been working for several months on the parking problem with the local community including Minginish Community Hall Committee, Minginish Community Council, Isle of Skye Mountain Rescue and also Forestry Commission Scotland.

“Last summer Skye was the busiest it has been for a long time.

“It is certainly bringing problems with parking, not just at the Fairy Pools, put at places like Storr and Quiraing.

“We will continue to work to find a solution to the parking congestion problems in the Fairy Pools area and in all areas on Skye.

“There are plans for a short term solution and long term we want to extend we want to extend the Fairy Pools car park with the help of the Forestry Commission.”
